Electric Variation Available

The 2025 Audi A6 e-tron is an all-new, all-electric midsize luxury car with a potential range of around 400 miles.
The new A6 e-tron replaces the combustion-powered A6 sedan. We’ve been eagerly awaiting this car because Mercedes-Benz and BMW already have their equivalents up and selling. And we knew Audi would dress its latest electric vehicle (EV) in pretty cool apparel and endow it with interesting tech.
That’s what’s happening mostly with the new A6 e-tron, yet there are no big surprises so far. Perhaps that’s the point: not to alienate the more conservative A6 buyers and retain the “Audi business as usual” vibe. That’s fine by us. If the target range of 400 miles becomes a reality, then the A6 e-tron will be a serious candidate in this class.
The 2025 Audi A6 e-tron is completely new. Instead of being a sedan, like previous A6 generations, this one has a hatchback. The car’s official full name is the Audi A6 e-tron Sportback.
We anticipate the new A6 e-tron going on sale during the first half of 2025. Prices will be announced closer to its eventual launch date.
We expect the 2025 Audi A6 e-tron to start at around $77,000. We assume the trim level ladder will be the same as Audi’s usual offerings of Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The lineup could top out at around $97,000 for the Prestige with the single motor.
2025 Audi A6 e-tron Premium | $77,000 (estimate) |
2025 Audi A6 e-tron Premium Plus | $87,000 (estimate) |
2025 Audi A6 e-tron Prestige | $97,000 (estimate) |
These figures include both the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) and the factory-to-dealer delivery fee (destination charge).
Just as the erstwhile A6 competed with cars like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series, this all-electric model has the Mercedes-EQ EQE sedan and BMW i5 as rivals. They both start in the low-to-mid-$70,000s arena. So do the Tesla Model S, the Lucid Air, and the Genesis Electrified G80.
With a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive (RWD), the base 2025 A6 e-tron is propelled by a respectable 362 horsepower. That compares well against the 355 horses of the BMW i5 eDrive40 and the 288 hp of the Mercedes-EQ EQE 350+. This muscle should enable the A6 e-tron to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds or so, a fraction quicker than these aforementioned rivals. The alternative configuration with all-wheel drive adds a second motor turning the front wheels and contributing to a total of 422 hp.
Having shunned the idea for its present electric vehicles, Audi has almost adopted one-pedal driving, which the company calls “B mode.” Lifting all the way off the accelerator doesn’t bring the car to a complete halt, but it does slow it down through higher levels of brake energy regeneration.
Audi always has a winning way with interior design. The new A6 e-tron mixes technology with comfort and smart ergonomics. The tech includes a single curved unit incorporating an 11.9-inch instrument cluster with a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. A 10.9-inch display is available for the front passenger. The infotainment tech itself is based on an Android operating system, although we’re sure Apple CarPlay will also be standard. Options include a quad-zone climate control system with an ionizer and fragrance. Thanks to its hatchback body, the A6 e-tron has a generous and versatile cargo area.
The A6 e-tron is the most aerodynamic Audi to date, with a drag coefficient of 0.21. The Tesla Model S and Lucid Air are similarly slippery. There’s a slight caveat here: The European variant of the A6 e-tron uses small cameras instead of side mirrors, which aren’t approved for our shores. Nevertheless, the car is still extremely aero-efficient. Instead of being a sedan, this new electric model has a hatchback like the A7 Sportback that we already know and appreciate for its grace and practicality. Standard wheels are 19-inch alloys with an aerodynamic design, of course.
Adaptive air suspension
This is available in the new A6 e-tron, bringing a broad spread of settings from comfortable to sporty, and adjusting ride height according to conditions — which helps optimize aerodynamic efficiency.
Augmented reality head-up display
Not just projecting typical information onto the windshield in front of the driver, this option adds things like direction arrows for navigation.
Adaptive driving assistant
This technology augments adaptive cruise control with map information and other data to enhance occupant comfort, as well as calculate arrival times.
Park Assist Plus
Self-parking for parallel and perpendicular spaces is always a good thing in our (blue) book.
Panoramic glass roof
The A6 e-tron offers this cool glass roof that can go from transparent to four levels of opaqueness with the touch of a button.
Bang & Olufsen audio
We think it’s good to see — and hear — some favorite features making it into Audi’s newest cars. The A6 e-tron offers a Bang & Olufsen surround-sound system with 830 watts going through 20 speakers, some of those speakers being in the front headrests.
Audi has yet to give an official estimate of the maximum range for the new A6 e-tron, but 400 miles is the target. This goal will probably be achieved by the single-motor/rear-drive configuration. For reference, the EQE 350+ and i5 eDrive40 come in just under 300 miles, the Lucid Air Pure manages 420 miles, and the Tesla Model S claims 402 miles.
The car’s battery is quite big, with a usable capacity of 94.9 kilowatt-hours (kWh). When connected to a DC fast charger, Audi claims this battery can go from 10% capacity to 80% in 21 minutes, which is about as fast as the present technology allows.
Audi’s new-vehicle and powertrain warranties last four years or 50,000 miles, whichever happens first. EV batteries are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles. This coverage is all typical for the class, especially among European luxury car makers.
Confirmed standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
We don't have consumer reviews for this vehicle.
The 2025 A6 e-tron goes on sale in the first half of 2025, so expect the order books to open at the end of 2024.
Audi is targeting a maximum range of 400 miles based on parameters set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Until official pricing is announced, our estimate is that the 2025 Audi A6 e-tron will start at about $77,000 and go up to more than $100,000 with the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system in the top Prestige trim.
As Audi aficionados are aware, the Avant name means a wagon. And there is a 2025 Audi A6 e-tron Avant available in Europe. It’s unlikely to go on sale in the United States unless Audi calls it an “allroad” or something and jacks up the suspension a bit.
