While it’s not going to take you places a Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler will venture, the A4 Allroad does have some reasonable off-road capabilities. Because it sits higher off the ground than a traditional wagon, the A4 Allroad won’t risk the expensive crunching sound of metal-meets-rock when traversing off the beaten path.
The A4 Allroad shares its mechanical blueprint with the spry and stately Audi A4 sedan. The current A4 lineup has been around longer than many of its competitors, but remains compelling and competitive. For added space, luxury, and additional power, there’s also the larger Audi A6 Allroad wagon to consider. Yet with so many car shoppers handing in their hard-earned cash for anything SUV, the A4 Allroad will remain something of an automotive unicorn.
2023 Audi A4 allroad pricing starts at $31,886 for the A4 allroad Premium Wagon 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $46,870 when new. The range-topping 2023 A4 allroad Prestige Wagon 4D starts at $38,344 today, originally priced from $56,770.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2023 Audi A4 allroad models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.
The A4 Allroad is offered in three main trims: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The good news is that no matter which you choose, you get a powerful turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that delivers ample and refined acceleration. This powertrain features a 12-volt hybrid system to help conserve fuel and add a small jolt of extra acceleration as needed. Audi’s highly-regarded quattro AWD system is standard across the range, too.
It sits higher than the standard A4 sedan, but this additional ride height never makes the Allroad feel tippy or out of its depth on curvy roads. Ride quality masterfully straddles the line between comfort and control, complemented by supportive seats. If we had to make a cross-country trip in winter, we’d be happy with a 2023 A4 Allroad, reassured by the AWD system.
The 2023 Audi A4 Allroad has an elegant interior that looks and feels like it was built to last. All controls are logically placed and the outward visibility is excellent.
The 10.1-inch infotainment screen is simple to navigate, and we’ve already mentioned being huge fans of the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit display found in the Premium Plus and Prestige trims. This imparts a modern design without feeling like you’re being overwhelmed by touchscreens and controls.
One note of caution — there is reasonable room onboard for adults, though the backseat won’t exactly spoil you with space. This isn’t an SUV, after all, and there’s only so much room Audi can carve out of an interior borrowed from the A4 small sedan. Cargo space behind the second-row measures in at 24 cubic feet. With the 20/40/20 split-folding rear seat folded down, this expands to 58.5 cubic feet in capacity.
With its narrow headlights and bold front grille, the A4 Allroad makes a great first impression. Sleeker than a more upright SUV, this Audi wagon is stylish but doesn’t overdo things with extraneous details.
The A4 Allroad’s raised suspension and gray cladding around the wheel arches add some off-road attitude to the design. For even more visual machismo, the new Black Optic Plus package adds a black exterior trim, 18-inch alloys, and black exhaust tips.
If you’re not a fan of body cladding, certain colors in the A4 Allroad catalog allow for a single-color exterior paint job.
1. Convenience package
For an additional $2,500, the Convenience package adds a wide range of tempting options to the entry-level A4 Allroad. These include features like blind-spot monitoring, a heated steering wheel, memory settings for the driver’s seat, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, and a 3-month subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio.
2. Virtual Cockpit Plus
Audi’s Virtual Cockpit Plus is beautifully engineered and is one of our favorite features found in the A4 Allroad’s classy cabin. This 12.3-inch digital screen is placed directly in front of the driver. It can be configured in a number of ways, though having navigation controls directly within the driver’s line of sight is perhaps its best party trick. Available on Premium Plus and above.
3. Black Optic Plus package
Available on the Premium Plus and Prestige trims, the new-for-2023 Black Optic Plus package adds a little visual muscle to the A4 Allroad. It adds a black exterior trim, 18-inch wheels, and comes finished in what Audi calls “Manhattan Gray” paint.
4. Bang & Olufsen audio
Audiophiles will appreciate the 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system fitted to the 2023 A4 Allroad in mid-range Premium Plus and top-of-the-line Premium trims.
5. Quattro AWD
Audi doesn’t play favorites when it comes to including its extremely capable AWD hardware in every A4 Allroad trim. This adds an extra degree of security on messy roads and could convince some car shoppers to forego putting an SUV in their driveway.
6. Adaptive suspension
We’ve talked about its punchy powertrain and grippy all-wheel-drive hardware. But let’s not forget the A4 Allroad’s adaptive suspension earns a lot of credit for this wagon’s driving refinement. It automatically adjusts to road conditions in milliseconds.
All three trim levels of the 2023 A4 Allroad come with a 261-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that’s coupled with a 12-volt mild-hybrid system. This has two primary benefits: It helps save fuel by powering the stop/restart function, and it serves up an extra 13 horsepower if the accelerator is pressed hard.
AWD is also standard, along with a 7-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. One thing to note, if you’re looking to save money on fuel: Audi recommends a diet of pricier premium gasoline.

Audi Pre Sense Basic
This safety feature helps detect if an accident is imminent. If it does, any open windows and the sunroof will be automatically closed, seatbelts will tighten down, and the hazard lights will be activated.
Audi Pre Sense City
This system will visually and audibly warn the driver if it detects an impending collision. It operates at speeds below 52 mph and can detect pedestrians and bicyclists.
Head-up display
Found on the Prestige trim, this projects an image in front of the driver to display information such as speed and navigation instructions. It’s a valuable tool for keeping attention on the road ahead.
