For 2021, the A4 Allroad now has 261 horsepower, up from 248 last year. This, courtesy of a new belt-driven 12-volt mild-hybrid system used in all 2021 Audi A4s.
Apart from that, the 2021 Audi A4 Allroad remains much the same, a raised wagon that blends the amenities and plush ride quality of a luxury sedan with the utility of a compact wagon and the adventurous spirit of a crossover SUV.
Like other Audis, the A4 Allroad is sporty, comfortable, and efficient, and it’s tech-forward interior features a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
With a starting price of $44,600, plus a destination fee of $995, the 2021 Audi A4 Allroad has a premium price, far above the Subaru Outback, but in the same ballpark as the Volvo V70 Cross Country.
2021 Audi A4 allroad pricing starts at $27,707 for the A4 allroad Premium Wagon 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $47,890 when new. The range-topping 2021 A4 allroad Prestige Wagon 4D starts at $31,544 today, originally priced from $55,990.

In suspension tuning, the Audi A4 Allroad lands somewhere between the firmness of a BMW and the suppleness of a Lexus. The result? A ride that can be enjoyed on any road, thanks to the standard adaptive suspension that automatically adjusts the damping for the conditions. DriveSelect also allows the A4 Allroad driver to switch from Sport or Comfort to an Off-road mode that optimizes traction in the dirt.
The 2021 A4 Allroad’s mild-hybrid powertrain, featuring a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, produces with 261 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at a lowly 1,600 rpm. The engine teams with a standard 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that occasionally can be caught off-boost.
Standard Quattro all-wheel drive, together with 6.5 inches of ground clearance, makes for an A4 Allroad that is your ally on snowy or muddy roads. Interested in a more rugged form of off-roading? Look to a traditional SUV instead.
The A4 Allroad’s interior is a welcome environment with Audi’s expectedly high level of quality and design. What’s more, we continue to enjoy the MMI infotainment system, the large 10.1-inch touchscreen, and the standard panoramic sunroof.
While the back seat of the 5-passenger station wagon is not especially roomy, there is a respectable 24 cubic feet of cargo space in back, or 58.5 cubic feet when the 40/20/40-split rear bench is folded.
Premium Plus and Prestige models get the highly desirable Virtual Cockpit Plus, a 12.3-inch TFT (thin-film transistor) digital instrument cluster with Classic, Sport and Dynamic appearance modes. The base A4 Allroad, the Premium, has a color 7.0-inch driver information screen. A traditional volume control is just to the right of the transmission lever.
Because the sheet metal was revised just last year, the Audi A4 Allroad is unchanged visually for 2021. It continues to look good, with a broad and flat grille that has vertical chrome slates that help emphasize the vehicle’s increased ground clearance and height.
Audi says the A4 Allroad’s pronounced wheel arches pay tribute to the brand’s Quattro DNA, and we like how the low-set shoulder line visually lowers the vehicle’s center of gravity. Broad quarter windows in the back make the cabin look longer and the C-pillars slenderer.
As was true last year, gray body cladding around the wheels continues to foster a rugged look, but the A4 Allroad can be ordered with a fully painted one-color finish (certain colors only).
VIRTUAL COCKPIT PLUS
One of our favorite Audi features, the Virtual Cockpit Plus replaces the analog-instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch configurable digital display that can show virtual gauges, a huge Google Maps navigation display, audio settings, and driving data.
AUDI DRIVE SELECT
Standard equipment on the 2021 A4 Allroad, Drive Select lets the driver choose among Comfort, Dynamic, Auto, Individual and Offroad. The A4 Allroad’s standard adaptive suspension automatically adjusts for the selected driving mode.
The 2021 Audi A4 Allroad is available in three levels: Premium, Premium Plus, or Prestige.
The Premium, the entry model, is well equipped with adaptive suspension, leather seating, 8-way-power front seats, 3-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, walnut interior inlays, a power tailgate, and the Pre Sense City safety suite.
If you want the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit Plus (and who wouldn’t?), it’s standard on the Premium Plus model, along with adaptive cruise control, a top-view camera, active lane assist, and acoustic parking aids.
At the top of the A4 Allroad lineup is the Audi A4 Allroad Prestige. The Prestige flagship is distinguished by a head-up display, heated rear seats, matrix-design LED headlights, ambient interior lighting, and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Most options on the 2021 Audi A4 Allroad are grouped in packages.
The Premium model continues to be available with a Convenience Package (which is standard on the Premium and Premium Plus). This $1,800 option includes a motion-sensor alarm, a heated steering wheel, keyless ignition, parking sensors, a blind-spot monitor, and a 90-day trial with Sirius XM satellite radio.
The Premium Plus can be ordered with a Navigation Package ($1,500), and a Warm Weather Package ($1,450), as well as individual options like rear side airbags ($350), a fully-painted finish ($1,000), gray oak interior trim (no charge) and the 755-watt Bang & Olufsen sound system ($950).
Since the Prestige already has the Convenience Package, the Navigation Package, the Warm Weather Package, and the B&O stereo all standard, it doesn’t have many options. They include gray oak interior trim (no charge), a fully painted exterior finish ($1,000; the plastic cladding around the fenders is painted), and the rear side airbags ($350).
Metallic or pearl-effect paint is also available on all A4 Allroads, for $595.
A turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine still powers the Audi A4 Allroad, but for the 2021 model year, a new belt-driven 12-volt mild-hybrid system adds 13 horsepower. Total output is now 261 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque at only 1,600 rpm.
Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters, the engine propels this all-wheel-drive Audi station wagon to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. The 2021 A4 Allroad Quattro is rated by the EPA at 24 mpg city/30 mpg highway/26 mpg combined.

Audi Pre Sense Basic
If the A4 Allroad determines that an accident is inevitable, this standard system pretensions the front seatbelts, closes the side windows and sunroof, and then activates the hazard lights.
Audi Pre Sense City
Using radar sensors and/or the front camera, Pre-Sense City detects possible collisions, warns the driver of them, and then initiates vehicle braking. The system also detects pedestrians and cyclists.
Rear-passenger thorax side airbags
These airbags, a stand-alone option on all 2021 Audi A4 Allroad models, help to protect outboard rear passengers in side impacts. They are in addition to the A4 Allroad’s six standard airbags.
