- Retro design inspired by 504 Coupe
- 455 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque on tap
- 0-62 mph acceleration in less than 4 seconds
- Boasts over 370 miles of range
Making its debut at the Paris Motor Show, the Peugeot e-Legend Coupe combines cutting edge electric and autonomous vehicle technology with a sexy shape that recalls the legendary Peugeot 504 Coupe. This handsome 2-door has a flowing body, large glass area and thin pillar design that is modern looking, while offering at the same time a touch of nostalgia.
Equipped with 100 kWh batteries, the electric motors in the e-Legend produce 455 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The e-Legend is said to be capable of 0-62 mph acceleration of less than 4 seconds and has a top speed of 137 mph. Peugeot also says that the vehicle has a range of over 370 miles and can use fast charging to get over 300 miles of range in just 25 minutes. And rather than having to plug the vehicle in, the battery pack can be recharged using a wireless induction system.
Two states of autonomous operation
While most vehicles merely promise autonomous operation, Peugeot has taken the concept a step further and offers two different experiences as part of its stated objective of “#Unboring the future.” The first option is termed “Soft”, which is geared towards passenger comfort, minimizes distracting information displays and seeks to create a calm environment. The second, called “Sharp”, accentuates the vehicle’s dynamics to impart a sensation of excitement. This is further complimented by allowing maximum connection to digital material and displays.
When the vehicle is in autonomous mode, the steering wheel retracts and allows for a clear unobstructed view of the 49-inch front screen. The front seats are reclined, armrests deploy automatically opening up a large storage area and a wireless charging area for smartphones. The vehicle’s main controls still remain accessible in the center console that’s part of the driver’s seat.
Immersive experience
When the vehicle is being operated manually, the driver has the option to configure the displays to recall the 504 Coupe’s analog displays, called “Legend” mode, as well as turning on digital displays of wood accents to add a touch of luxury. In “Boost” mode, the power of the electric motor is stepped up and the driver is treated to a 180-degree immersion with the projection of the road on a single large screen.
“With Peugeot e-Legend Concept, for us it’s about intensifying and refining the experience of 100-percent autonomous, electric and connected,” said Aude Brille, head of Peugeot strategy. “The Responsive i-Cockpit is enhanced to offer its guests immersive driving specifically customized for each of the four driving modes available.”
