The 2021 Nissan Leaf has an EPA-certified range of just 149 miles (226 if you step up to the Leaf Plus, a more than $5,000 premium). That’s far more than the average driver needs on an average day. But it’s a short enough range to be a problem for drivers who take the occasional road trip.
Nissan has a solution.
Buyers will now get a $350 credit with peer-to-peer car rental service Turo with the purchase or lease of a 2021 Leaf. The program, Nissan says, allows owners to “own the car they want and book the car they need.”
“Nissan understands our LEAF customers, and we know that there are times when they may need a different vehicle for a specific occasion,” said Aditya Jairaj, director, EV marketing and sales strategy, Nissan U.S. “With this offer, LEAF owners get a great electric vehicle that suits their everyday driving, but if they want a different vehicle to help move or take a large family on a road trip, Nissan and Turo are giving them options.”
The offer began May 8 and ends June 30, 2021. Buyers must meet Turo’s eligibility requirements, which can include an auto insurance score and credit check.
Turo offers more than 350,000 vehicles, rented out by the day by private owners. They include trucks and vans for hauling, luxury cars for impressing a client or friend, and even classic cars in some markets (though your $350 won’t get you far in a first-generation Corvette).
The program is the second Nissan-Turo team-up. A 2019 offer allowed users to book test-drives in Nissan cars through the Turo system.
