Back in 1969, two things changed how we saw the world. First and foremost, we landed on the moon and came back. Second and still significant, however, Nissan landed the 1970 Datsun 240Z on U.S. shores and won hearts and headlines all across America. The affordable 2-seat sports car was a reality.
While we appear to have stopped going to the moon for the time being, Nissan’s Z cars have been a steady presence on the landscape of fun-to-drive/fun-to-look-at performance cars for the last half decade. And Nissan wants to throw a party. Thus, it has created the 2020 Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition.
A car that inspires memories
Showing up in your 50th Anniversary Z will certainly get you the attention you’ve been seeking. The car comes in a choice of two paint schemes, each a nod to the BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) Datsun racecars that garnered series championships in the early 1970s. You can get white with red hash stripes on the doors, plus a red hood, side mirrors, roofline and hatch. Alternatively, you can go for a silver car with black hash stripes and a black hood-to-hatch treatment. The final exterior accent is 19-inch forged-alloy wheels with red accents.
Only 50 of the white-with-red anniversary models will be sold in the U.S., and Pete Brock himself — the “B” in BRE — will get the first one built.
Class of 2020: The New and Redesigned Cars, Trucks and SUVs
While the coupe version of the 370Z Sport model forms the basis of the interior in the Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition, Nissan wants to make interior of the Anniversary Edition pop. So, the company adds leather-and-suede-covered seats (heated and power-adjustable), an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, exclusive suede door-panel inserts, and dark chrome accents. You’ll find “50th Anniversary” logos just about everywhere on the car, from the front fender and rear badge to the floor mats and tachometer.
As with the interior, the Anniversary Edition is based around the Sport trim level of the Nissan 370Z Coupe. That means the impressive 332 horsepower of Nissan’s 3.7-liter V6 mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. Ride and handling chores are covered by a double-wishbone front and multilink rear suspension. Vented disc brakes work hard at all four corners.
What will the price for the 50th Anniversary Nissan 370Z be?
The price for the 2020 Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition package is $2,600 above the Sport model. As a result, the 6-speed manual version of the 370Z 50th Anniversary starts at $36,420, while the 7-speed automatic version is priced from $37,620. Delivery is $895 extra.
The good news is that you won’t have to wait long to get yours — the 2020 iteration of Nissan’s most heralded sports car goes on sale later this month (April, 2019).
