You have a lot of options in the compact luxury SUV segment. Many of them tend to blend in with the crowd. Not the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. It offers the unique Italian flair and the sporty driving experience expected from this storied brand.
Some rivals are more affordable, and others are more practical with more cargo space, but if you prioritize performance above all else in an SUV, the Stelvio is worth a look. It competes with the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Porsche Macan.
2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio pricing starts at $26,007 for the Stelvio Sprint Sport Utility 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $51,920 when new. The range-topping 2023 Stelvio Quadrifoglio Sport Utility 4D starts at $61,331 today, originally priced from $87,270.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is an exciting SUV to drive. Even with the base turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, the Stelvio delivers ample power and torque with quick acceleration. The engine perfectly complements its well-tuned chassis, which provides agile handling worthy of a sports sedan. The best part is that it doesn’t sacrifice a comfortable, luxurious ride for sporty driving dynamics.
The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is an absolute thrill from behind the wheel. Its turbocharged V6 sounds excellent and makes 505 horsepower, helping this Italian SUV hit 60 mph in only 3.6 seconds. On top of the engine upgrade, you get an active suspension system, limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes, and a Race drive mode.
The Stelvio Estrema is a new entry in the Stelvio family for the 2023 model year. It borrows the limited-slip differential and active suspension system from the Quadrifoglio trim to make it the sportiest 4-cylinder option in the Stelvio lineup.
The interior of the 2023 Alfa Romeo Stelvio has sporty styling to match its exterior and performance. Many rivals in this class are more opulent and have more comfortable seats, but this is still a premium interior.
Some fantastic interior options include red leather seats, aluminum or carbon-fiber trim, and tech features like Harman Kardon premium audio. In the Quadrifoglio trim, you can get Sparco leather/Alcantara sport seats.
The seating is pretty roomy in the Stelvio, but the cargo space isn’t. This SUV has 18.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which is below average for its class.
The sporty exterior styling of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is one of its most significant selling points. This Alfa is one of your best options if you’re looking for a premium SUV that stands out in traffic. It has a stylish design with unique paint options like Misano Blue, Ocra GT, and Verde Montreal.
The size of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is in line with the rest of the compact luxury SUV segment. Its dimensions are similar to those of the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Porsche Macan.
1. Powerful Base Engine
The Stelvio boasts an impressive base engine that’s sportier than the average base engine in this class. It has best-in-class numbers for horsepower, torque, top speed, and acceleration with a 5.5-second 0-60 mph time. No matter which trim you choose, you won’t get bored behind the wheel of the Stelvio.
2. Head-Turning Styling
If your neighborhood is crawling with BMW and Mercedes-Benz SUVs, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio will stand out from the crowd. Its unique Italian style is distinct and sporty, especially in the Estrema and Quadrifoglio trims. This is a luxury SUV that can’t be ignored.
3. New Estrema Model
The new Estrema trim of the Stelvio is a nice middle-ground between the lower trims and the expensive Quadrifoglio model. This performance-oriented SUV has perks like an active suspension system, a limited-slip differential, and a sporty appearance package with carbon-fiber trim inside and out.
4. Active Assist Plus Package
This driver assistance tech package is optional for all but the base Sprint trim and adds several desirable safety features. It bundles blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, driver attention alert, and the Highway Assist System with adaptive cruise control and Traffic Jam Assist.
5. Premium Interior and Sound Package
This option package available for the Ti and Veloce trims does exactly what you’d expect: It upgrades the interior with a leather dash and upper doors, plus a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
6. 505-Horsepower Quadrifoglio Trim
The high-performance Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is one of the most thrilling options in compact luxury SUVs. Its Ferrari-derived turbo V6 generates 505 horsepower. Other performance upgrades include Brembo brakes, a dual-mode quad-exit exhaust system, torque-vectoring AWD, active suspension, and a Race drive mode.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio has two engine options. Most trims come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 280 horsepower. Alfa Romeo says it’s the most powerful base engine in the Stelvio’s class, and consequently the quickest to reach 60 mph. That means the base Stelvio is genuinely exciting to drive, with good fuel economy.
A Ferrari-derived turbocharged V6 powers the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. This brings a significant performance upgrade to the Stelvio, making it competitive with the BMW X3 M and Porsche Macan GTS. However, it comes with a fuel economy penalty.
Every Stelvio employs an 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive (AWD) is standard on every trim except the base Sprint model, which has standard rear-wheel drive (RWD) and optional AWD.
