You have many options when shopping for a compact luxury sedan. You could go with one of the well-established names in this segment, like the BMW 3 Series or Mercedes-Benz C-Class, or a more budget-friendly option like the Cadillac CT4 or Genesis G70. However, if you’re looking for something unique, the Alfa Romeo Giulia is guaranteed to turn heads. This Italian sport sedan has the performance to back up its aesthetics, and it’s worth a test drive for anyone looking for a luxury car that’s fun to drive with a measure of 4-door practicality. However, some similarly priced rivals offer more luxury and technology.
The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors, but here's a general idea of what buyers are currently paying for used 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia models when purchasing from a dealership.
Original MSRP | KBB Fair Purchase Price (national avg.) | |||
---|---|---|---|---|
$45,875 | $23,817 | |||
$47,915 | $27,364 | |||
$51,115 | $27,792 | |||
$51,515 | $29,250 | |||
$57,015 | $30,294 | |||
$81,355 | TBD |
For reference, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia originally had a starting sticker price of $45,875, with the range-topping Giulia Quadrifoglio Sedan 4D starting at $81,355.
The Giulia is a luxury sedan with the engaging driving experience you would expect from an Alfa Romeo. Its base engine enables the Giulia to be a class leader in power, top speed, and acceleration with a quick 0-60 mph time of 5.1 seconds (if you opt for the available Q4 all-wheel-drive system)
This responsive engine is a good fit in this well-balanced chassis. The Giulia has good weight distribution, and the handling is agile around corners while being comfortable in highway driving. Customize your drive with the DNA drive mode selector. Neutral mode is the default, Dynamic mode makes for a sportier drive, and Advanced Efficiency mode prioritizes fuel efficiency.
If you have the appetite and the budget for a high-powered luxury sports sedan, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio must be driven. Its Ferrari-derived twin-turbo V6 engine produces 505 horsepower and rockets the car from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. The exhaust note never gets old. It’s more than just an engine upgrade. You also get sport-tuned steering, an adaptive suspension system, a carbon-fiber driveshaft, and 50/50 weight distribution, which helps the Giulia feel like a genuine sports car.
The Giulia Quadrifoglio is seriously competitive with sports sedan royalty like the BMW M3 Competition, Audi RS 5 Sportback, and Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing.
The interior of the Alfa Romeo Giulia is nice by anyone’s standards, but it’s not as luxurious as most of its German rivals. The interior design of the Giulia speaks to its sporty nature, and the quality of the materials is impressive. However, compared to the rest of this segment, it just isn’t as premium-feeling, and the technology is a bit outdated.
Where the interior of the Alfa shines is in the more sport-oriented trims. The Quadrifoglio and Estrema models have a stylish carbon-fiber interior trim, and the Quadrifoglio model is available with Sparco sport front seats. The new Lusso model turns up the luxury with unique Cannelloni-design leather seating and Harman Kardon audio.
The front seats are roomy and comfortable as long as you don’t mind generous bolstering. These seats help keep you in place in spirited driving, but not everybody likes this sporty style of seats. The rear seats are a little cramped but sufficient for children. The Stelvio SUV will better serve drivers looking for a family-friendly Alfa. Cargo space is about average for a sedan of this size.
The exterior design is a Giulia strong suit. In a sea of compact luxury sedans, some of them tend to blend together in traffic. Not the Giulia with its unique Italian style. The V-shaped grille is distinct, and the body lines have an aggressive high-end look.
The look of the Giulia changes a bit depending on trim. For example, the Estrema model has carbon-fiber mirrors, the Lusso trim has brushed aluminum exterior trim, and the Quadrifoglio model has a sporty appearance package with a rear diffuser, quad-tip exhaust, a carbon-fiber spoiler, a unique carbon-fiber hood, dual heat extractors, and special wheels.
The Guilia is one of the smaller compact luxury sedans. Its dimensions are a bit smaller than the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, although a touch larger than the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
1. Italian Style
The Alfa Romeo Giulia has exotic styling not quite like any of its competitors. The unique front end with its “V Scudetto” grille, well-sculpted body lines, and stylish wheels make the Giulia turn heads wherever it goes. In the Giulia, you will never be guilty of blending in with the crowd.
2. The Quadrifoglio Model
The stunning Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrifoglio is a high-performance sports sedan powered by a Ferrari-derived twin-turbo V6 making 505 horsepower. It achieves a 0-60 mph time of just 3.8 seconds, and its exhaust note is intoxicating. Other performance upgrades include adaptive suspension, a limited-slip differential, a carbon-fiber driveshaft, and a Race drive mode.
3. Strong Base Engine
If you don’t quite have the budget for the Quadrifoglio, you won’t get bored with the base turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. It has class-leading numbers in horsepower, torque, top speed, and acceleration for a base engine in this segment. That means every Giulia is a blast to drive, no matter how you option it.
4. Q4 All-Wheel Drive
The available Q4 all-wheel-drive (AWD) system for the 4-cylinder Giulia provides confidence-inspiring traction and improves on-road grip. The Q4 system adjusts power delivery for peak performance with a quicker 0-60 mph time than rear-wheel-drive (RWD) models.
5. Sporty Estrema Trim
The Estrema edition is new for 2023. It’s a sporty trim that’s positioned as an affordable 4-cylinder alternative to the Quadrifoglio model. It has carbon-fiber accents inside and out, but it’s more than just an appearance package. You also get active suspension, Quadrifoglio-tuned steering, and a limited-slip differential.
6. Luxurious Lusso Trim
The new Lusso model is the luxurious choice in the Giulia lineup. It has exclusive Cannelloni-design leather seating plus leather upholstery on the dashboard and upper doors. An immersive 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system also comes standard.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia has two engine options. Most models are equipped with a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with class-leading power, torque, acceleration, and top speed for a base engine in this class. Meanwhile, it’s reasonably good on gas.
The Quadrifoglio model has a mighty twin-turbo V6 producing 505 horsepower and achieves a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds.
Every Giulia employs an 8-speed automatic transmission. RWD is standard; AWD is optional on 4-cylinder models. The Quadrifoglio is RWD-only.
