"Perfect Little Sports Car"

I have owned this car for 7 years and 90k plus miles, and I can honestly say whatever I own as my next vehicle is going to have a tough time equaling up to the experience I had with my 06' RSX. Keep in mind this is almost a 10 year old car as I post this review, and I still have people give me the thumbs up when out on the road. In the time I have owned the car all I have had to replace is brakes, rotors, and the battery which is testament to Acura's fantastic build quality. If you are looking for a daily driver that is good looking, rock solid, efficient, and FUN this is the car for you!

Critical Review

"Cool, but not worth it"

I currently own this car and have only had it for about 4 months. I bought the car from my Dad and he was the only previous owner. The good: amazing handling, great suspension (for racing, NOT DAILY DRIVING), and overall a beautiful car, it really looks like an import and the paint has held up surprisingly well. The bad: Many repairs. It does have a lot of miles, but I had a civic with the same amount of miles and not even half of the same problems that I have with this "luxury" honda. Within the short time I've had it, it has required a new power steering hose ($350), an upstream O2 sensor ($360), a new clutch ($2200 through dealership), and $250 bucks in other various repairs. Sadly, this car is still not up to parr. I also changed the transmission fluid in an attempt to save 2nd gear. These cars have a common gear issue and most need to be synched again. I haven't even looked into how much that is. It also, like most RSXs, has seats that have completely deteriorated. New seat covers (just for the front) are $3800. That's actually more than the car is worth. Another common issue is oil consumption. I add oil to this car all the time because it just burns right through it. I'm a huge Honda fan, but this car has really let me down in terms of reliability and especially value. It's hard to understand how every part can cost over $300 and after this, I don't see me ever purchasing another Acura again. I will get a Civic Si next time.

The perfect car.
Pros

Rust free, good tires, awesome 6 speed manual, good breaks, new parts!

Cons

The con was I had to grow up and work on my own car!

The acura I found was in mint condition, exactly as stated! No rust for a vehicle in the rust belt was an awesome surprise! All it needed was a timing chain!

Still love it
Pros

Fun to drive, 35 mpg, 6 speed manual, gets looks

Cons

Seat tear common

Bought new, 175,000 miles on it. Both front seats developed tears so covered them red/black neoprene. Replaced headlights due plastic dulling. Do 50% of my driving in the mountains of NC and I've got to tell you - fun, fun, fun. Running thru the gears on those curves is what it's about. 18 years later, still average 35 mpg. Wife gets beeped at by young drivers and given a thumbs-up.

Still Love my 18 year-old Type S
Pros

Spirited driving, timeless style

Cons

Leather tears, 3rd gear synchro issues

I bought my 2004 Type S in 2009 with 46,000 miles on it. Now 12 years later and at 260,000 miles, I know I'm going to need to replace it soon and it breaks my heart. In my opinion, the RSX Type S was a perfect mix of reliability, performance, style, and quality seriously lacking in today's vehicles. I loathe the day I have to give it up.

Amazing Car
Pros

Honda parts, Fun to drive, style, Space

Cons

Rattled sometimes, leather seats tear

My Family and I drove this car for 170K miles after buying it and the only reason we stopped was a wreck. Car was safe and even through a hard wreck I only had minor soreness. The RSX was a perfect sporty and convenient mix that I wish Acura or Honda would make again to give an alternative to the Civic Hatches which are hard to even find used. If you want a cheap to fix reliable car this is the one. Only problems were mainly minor like the leather seats will tear, the motor to roll up the windows died on me twice, and the starter started to get bad after about 20 years but these are all expected problems especially with the wear and tear from pizza delivery.

Pros

I might sound bias but it’s all true

Cons

Front wheel drive

I love this car it’s my first Honda/Acura k series I studied this car in and out when I bought it! I have 280,000 miles on the car. I drive back n fourth to North Carolina and Ohio all the time. Maintenance is super cheap and car is reliable it’s pretty fast stock. I’ve done some upgrades to it never touched the motor tho and I can’t get off this this I race this everytime I get in the car could be another con/ everyone that sees you tries to race you too lol. But anyway I literally beat the brakes off this car non stop and it won’t brake at 280,000 I might have to get a new clutch soon but it’s an affordable part and I’ll even get a stronger one than stock. But I love this car I can’t brake it I’ve tried. It doesn’t flinch I bang limiter, roll backs still, rolls, drag pulls, I slam gears redline all my gears a lot! I change my fluids every 3k flush all that and she goes n goes !

Fun, reliable, good looks, and lots of cargo space
Pros

Fun to drive, reliable, hauls a lot for her size

Cons

The stiff suspension doesn't hide road noise

I bought this car new in 2005, and have not regretted that decision for a second. The seats practically molded to my body when I sat down; it felt more like I was putting the car on then getting into it. It's not the fastest car on the block, but it's plenty quick enough to be fun, even around the track. The only drawback there has to do with my 6'3" frame, which means my helmet hits the ceiling. Mechanically, she's been one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned. Aside from a recall item around 30k miles (the 3rd gear synchro kept popping out), I haven't had to do any maintenance beyond normal fluid changes, tires and brakes as they wear out, and a timing chain and clutch replacement at 100k. I've put almost 130k miles on her so far, and she's barely showing her age. She's just now starting to show a little bit of rust around a couple chips on the hood - I'm planning to care of that before it gets too bad, in order to have her gracing my garage for another 130k miles.

good car
Pros

economical, low maintenance, fun to drive

Cons

key fob battery didn't last but only 12 years.

Vary economical gets 35mpg city and 40mpg highway, very well built - the tires lasted 13 years and still had tread on them, but they were a little hard so had to get new ones. Very little maintenance needed due to being very well built and use of good materials. I wish Acura still made this car, as I would buy another.
