Positive Review

"Can't sell it, great suv!"

I've been looking at buying a new car and just don't feel like many of the new cars are much of an upgrade to my MDX. I bought this car with 90k miles on it, it now has 209k. In that time, I've only had to put an EGR valve in and do routine maintenance. There is a clunking in the front end now but that's pretty much a given on Michigan roads for high mileage cars. It seems like my friends and family always have their car in the shop but I'm confident in mine. The AWD and traction control gets this car through the snow without a problem. I've almost forgotten that snow is a problem for some people. Sound system is great. The car drives as smooth as silk, even with its high miles. The only thing that I don't like about this car is the gas mileage and the fact that it must be run on premium. Also there have been a few times that the stability control has involuntarily braked on dry pavement recently.

"watch out"

We bought a 2001 MDX new, drove it mostly in the city with occasional longer trips of 600 miles. The car was maintained regularly. At about 90k miles a strange rumbling sound began to occur, sort as if running over railroad tracks. I checked with the dealer and was told that the torque converter was the problem. I checked the internet and fount over one hundred and twenty complaints concerning this same problem, some occurring as early as 50,000 miles. Several customers were on their second transmission The cost to repair is more than $3500!

Dependable, Sturdy

In 2005 I bought a Certified Pre owned 2005 MDX with 250 miles that has 180,000 miles today. It has been extremely reliable and all major service was under the certified extended warranty. I had 1 flat tire and 1 tow after a water pump failed. I rarely spent over a few hundred dollars for servicing and the last years was even less. Year 17 the door locks stop functioning properly and now the air conditioning has failed in year 18. It has more life but I am are not willing to put in the money making repairs and the technology is outdated. We serviced the MDX every 3000-5000 miles and it served us well over the years . The steering remains tight and it continues to handle like a solid automobile. I purchased a 2023 Acura MDX Technology Package. a few days ago and look forward to providing a review in the future,

Smooth car-like ride, reliable,
Pros

AWD, smooth quiet ride, reliable

Cons

Ave gas mileage, premium gas

Wife purchased used 20k miles, 13 years later 260k miles, smooth car-like quiet ride, very few very common repairs (brakes, tires, alternator, batteries, belts, hoses, shocks, and that's it!!), very reliable, great family SUV, good stereo, excellent quality leather interior, comfortable seats, low tech with no nav & no backup camera. A few negatives: premium gas, ave mpg (24 highway).

I have owned 10 different vehicles, The Acura wins
Pros

Stylish & dependable

Cons

Seats could be more comfy

I have kept up with all scheduled maintenance according to the owners manual & even at 164k miles, she's a keeper. Pro tip, NEVER get the Trans flushed if it was not done regularly. Always opt for the drain & refill. I really don't have many issues with the vehicle at all.

Fair car, but lack of Honda support
Pros

Comfort and visibility

Cons

Constant repairs, poor mpg, unethical Honda Corp.

There are several things to like about the car such as the roomy interior, functional design, visibility, and comfort. With that said there are many issues with the car's reliability and constant mechanical issues. For example. the wiring in the car is terrible. They use very small gauge wire that constantly breaks making the rear wiper, fog lights, ceiling lights, etc... now operable. I have also replaced my rear window regulators 3 times because they broke with my window in the down position. In Colorado that makes for a very chilly drive during the winter. Without going into every issue I've experienced let's just say you can expect to pay 4 times over in repair and maintenance costs than the car is worth. And finally Honda does not stand behind their vehicles. In my case a service bulletin was issued to the Honda dealers for the motor mounts because corporate knew they tear and crack. Rather than informing customers of the issue their mechanics do the repairs at full cost to the owners even though the mounts are known to be faulty. Gas mileage is also terrible.
