The 2024 Ford Edge uses its midsize SUV dimensions to bring a more pleasant experience to a smaller audience. Pricing starts at $39,960.
Amid a slew of midsize SUVs that have three rows of seats and accommodation for up to eight, the Edge goes in another direction and furnishes its maximum of five occupants with all the space they’ll probably ever need. This approach has worked well. Our consumer reviews are overwhelmingly positive.
Yet it’s not just the luxury of space that the Edge brings to the mix. It can also offer a level of driver engagement that’s rare for the class. This is a particular Ford trait. The company has mastered the art of combining a smooth ride with enjoyable responses.
We mentioned above that there are no major changes to the 2024 Edge, but this could be the final year of production for the Edge as we know it. Having been around since 2015 (the same as the Nissan Murano), there are much newer rivals. Actually, it was originally thought that the Edge would end last year, but Ford has clearly decided to eke out another model year.
The 2024 Ford Edge has a starting sticker price of $39,960, with the range-topping Edge ST kicking off at $48,700. But Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Pricing currently suggests paying $2,412 to $3,030 less than MSRP, depending on trim and equipment. These prices are updated weekly.

Although there are more 3-row midsize SUVs than 2-row examples, the Edge still has some competition. The Chevrolet Blazer kicks off in the mid-$30K range, with Honda Passport, and Jeep Grand Cherokee beginning in the low $40K range. History buffs might like the aging Nissan Murano, starting in the mid-30s. There’s even another contender from within Ford — the Bronco, starting just under $40K.
Before buying a new Edge midsize SUV, check the Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price to know what you should be paying. Resale values are below average; the Passport and Grand Cherokee do much better.
Most versions of the 2024 Edge have a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine making 250 horsepower — energetic enough for the majority of buyers. It’s able to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in about seven seconds, or in real-world terms, it’s adequately brisk, but no more than that. The 280-horsepower Honda Passport can shave a few tenths off that time.
None of this detracts from the fact that the Edge probably drives better than it needs to. Not that many people will demand such an attribute from their new midsize SUV, but the Edge has a poise that’s entertaining once the family have all been dropped off and the back-road route home beckons. We’ve found something like the Hyundai Santa Fe to have a soft, near-luxury ride quality and that definitely has its attractions. The Edge has more of an, um, edge. More body control. A bit of sharpness to the steering. It can still be comfortable, though.
Taking this attribute further, and then adding extra muscle, the 335-horsepower Edge ST will hit 60 mph in about six seconds. For most of us, a high-performance SUV from Mercedes-AMG or BMW’s M division is beyond our budget. But for someone who still wants a bit of power and glory in their midsize SUV, it’s worth checking out this model.
Regardless of which engine you choose, you’ll get all-wheel drive (AWD) as standard, an especially nice perk if you have to contend with foul weather and slick roads.
We’ve spent hundreds of hours driving and researching the current collection of midsize SUVs, including the Ford Edge.
The 2.0-liter engine in the 2024 Edge achieves 23 combined mpg (21 city, 28 highway). The V6-powered ST returns 21 combined mpg (19 city, 25 highway). Both engines are fine with regular gasoline. For comparison, the Honda Passport manages 21 combined mpg (19 city, 24 highway).
Inside the Edge, a typical family with a couple of kids will find lots of room for people and luggage, or the week’s groceries. There are lots of smaller stowage areas dotted around the cabin as well, plus a deep cubby in the center console under the armrest.
Putting some numbers to these observations, rear legroom is 40.6 inches (an inch better than the Honda Passport) and cargo volume behind the rear seats measures a massive 39.2 cubic feet, opening out to 73.4 when those seats are folded. The Passport enjoys 41.2 to 77.7 cubic feet.
We’ve liked the comfortable front seats, but been less impressed by the less well-cushioned rears. We’ve also appreciated the cabin’s general quietness and been thankful for the standard blind-spot monitoring — because both the front and rear pillars are quite wide, and hinder outward vision more than we’d prefer.
Even though time keeps ticking on relentlessly, Ford has managed to keep the Edge looking quite contemporary. Curved lines like the Edge’s are being replaced by the more boxy looks of the new Hyundai Santa Fe, Land Rover Defender, and Ford Bronco. Still, the Edge did a great job of hanging in there for a long while. One of the best things we like about it is that it doesn’t make us think it’s a police car, which is what happens every time we see an Explorer.

The main engine in the 2024 Edge lineup is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit turbocharged to produce 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. The outlier is the twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 in the top ST model, which develops 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.
The 4-cylinder engine is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the V6 is mated to a 7-speed. All-wheel drive is standard across the board.
Ford’s new-vehicle warranty lasts three years or 36,000 miles, whichever happens first. Powertrains are covered for five years or 60,000 miles and that includes roadside assistance. These terms are typical among mainstream manufacturers.
The Edge has been named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the second-best of the institute’s accolades. It also earned a maximum 5-Star overall score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert.
The 2024 Ford Edge is in the middle 26-75% for Cost to Own among all Mid-size SUV/Crossovers.
